last pokemon game i played was the third generation one, emerald i think? i didnt like how the newer ones looked like

>>17 I do now, after looking up what it means. Never did that. What I often ended up doing is playing almost entirely with the starter pokemon, going to level 100 and further. Only used other pokemons for the mandatory skills (cut, fly, etc.). In my experience you can beat all emerald with your mudkip.
