agreed, I think cinematography is fine, it didn't seem mind blowing to me and I don't know how influential it was for it time. but it seems to be melodramatic story about a Welles' little gay insecurities that I can't relate to, so I found it incredibly boring.

It was the evangelion of anime of hollywood. Lots of techniques that're common now we're first used to make this film. That's the main reason people love it. Besides the fall of anti establishment guy into establishment's strongest soldier happens everywhere. Look at trump for example

I fell asleep watching it with my grandpa when I was around 13. Never finished it and years later I read a summary and got the ending spolied so I don't care anymore.
