I think this is a board-based setting, as far as I remember. Each board owner can choose IDs or not.

samefagging is part of the design of boards that allow it. it's intentional. I designed 5chan to be a clone of 4chan, cloning the UI/nostalgia/UX, but decentralized without global admins, so it can eventually replace 4chan. this means we don't want the default boards to be different than 4chan's (in terms of basic design). that said, you can create your own board with user IDs, though right now it's a bit complicated, you have to study the code. user IDs are
pseudonymousMode: "per-post"
. Also 5chan is FOSS, you are free to fork it, serve it on your domain, and add your own boards instead, and put user IDs in all of them. I think that's not good, samefagging can be fun, you shouldn't force it on all users.

as for md5, sounds like a good idea. someone should research it and see if they can add it to the settings. 5chan's settings can potentially become as powerful as 4chanX, they don't have to be as limited as 4chan's. right now 5chan's settings are quite poor of features because it's been low priority to add this kind of stuff, I need focus on basic UX and core functionality. other contributors can add stuff like 4chanX-like settings. PRs are welcome on github.com/bitsocialnet/5chan
